It’s true to say that when your golf is excellent it means you are enjoying it.  It’s also true that when you are calm and relaxed to begin with, your psychological state produces excellent golf.

It’s also a fact that every time you hit the ball you have to be totally in the moment!  When you are totally in the “now” all thoughts of what you have just done, and what you think or fear might happen next, just disappear.  There is only the absolute present time.  The fantastic or lousy shot you just hit does not exist once you’ve played it.  It’s now history!

Everyone knows that negative thinking can spoil your game, but not many people know that positive thinking can be just as bad.  Studies of what’s known as the “state of flow,” demonstrate that during periods of peak performance, men and women athletes have exceedingly low levels of cortical activity.  At times of peak performance, there is little or no thought.

Of course tension can get in the way of great play, bur so does worrying about whether you are tense or not!  To play well, you need to become totally at one with what ever you are doing in the exact moment that you are doing it.  “Becoming one” with your putt is going to become a regular and natural part of the way that you play – every time!
