The mind is split up into two parts; the conscious and the subconscious.  The conscious part of the mind is very logical and rational; it's the part that you use when making your decisions with on a day to day basis.  It's the part where willpower is held, but of course, you have to remember to use it.  This part of the mind can think of several things at one time, but it can only concentrate on doing one task at a time.  It's a very slow part of the mind.  It's the part of the mind that we would like to think that's in control - it's not! It's the subconscious part of the mind that's in control.

For example, you don't think about breathing, blood circulation or making your heart beat.  The subconscious is the auto pilot for the body running 24 hours a day.  This part of the mind can do many things at a time and while it's running the body it is also taking in two million pieces of information every second, passing on what it thinks is important and disregarding the rest.

Also held in your subconscious is your long term memories going all the way back to childhood, your emotions and your very powerful imagination.  For example, you've probably had dreams or nightmares where you have woken up shaking, sweating and your heart pounding.  This occurred because the subconscious part of your mind does not know the difference between real or imagined.  Therefore the subconscious makes physical changes to the body to make these images become true.

With this hypnosis session we are going to be using the imagination, because if you imagine that it is going to be easy to stop smoking, then you are right.  But if you imagine that it is going to be difficult to stop smoking you will also be right.  If you imagine that it's going to be easy to stop smoking your subconscious will start the ball rolling and make it easy for you!

Now, this is where hypnosis comes in.  There is no magic trick with hypnosis.  It's just a way of getting you to relax so that I can talk directly to your subconscious, the part that's in control.  When talking to the subconscious we can re-record an up to date memory that smoking is bad for you and it's something you don't want to do.

This hypnosis session will take away the old memory and replace it with the new memory of not wanting to smoke.  There is no need for cravings and desires because you will have both parts of the mind working as one to keep you from smoking!
